Arkansas Razorbacks were once the Arkansas Cardinals

In 1909 after defeating the Louisana Tigers at Baton Rouge, University of Arkansas coach Hugo Bezdek characterized the Arkansas Cardinals performance as "having played like a wild band of razorback hogs."
That description of the spirit of the U of A's young football team moved the entire student body to a democratic vote to change the name, a Cardinal or a Razorback.

commemorating the Razorbacks upcoming Centennial.
