In
1909 after defeating the Louisiana Tigers at Baton Rouge, University of
Arkansas coach Hugo Bezdek characterized the Arkansas Cardinals
performance as "having played like a wild band of razorback hogs." That
description of the spirit of the U of A's young football team moved the
entire student body to a democratic vote to change the name, a Cardinal
or a Razorback.
In time for the 1910 season, the Arkansas Razorbacks were born.
Olivetree Publishing is releasing 24 original prints commemorating the Razorbacks Centennial.
